Why do people live fake lifestyle especially in Lagos?

A fake lifestyle is living a life that is inauthentic, not being true to yourself and your beliefs. A lifestyle that stands to please others but does not please you. People find joy in displaying a lifestyle that is not theirs, a borrowed lifestyle which is morally bad.

Sometimes you ask yourself what is their main reason of living a fake life. You borrow a car and pose as the real owner, you hire cloths to attend events. Cloths on a normal day you can’t afford them. You live in highbrow areas when you don’t have the means of sustaining it. All these are to impress who?

Lagos is a big city, a commercial hub, the headquarters of entertainment in Nigeria and home to many celebrities and wealthy people. Does it mean these influential and successful people are the ones indirectly influencing others into the fake lifestyle thing just to feel among? Or is it greed and jealousy? Being insatiable, materialistic or is it poverty?

Social media has made everybody a publisher and this platform has made it very easy to project one in a luxury form when in reality the person is not what it is. Facebook, Instagram, Tiktok, Snapchat etc are the most popular platforms people use to display such fake attitudes.

Investigations have revealed that some of these celebrities most people look up to are also living the fake lifestyle which makes those that look up to them indulge in illegal activities just to meet up and feel among or chill with the big boys as the popular saying goes.

Recently an ex-Big Brother Naija season 6 Shine Ya Eye contestant and reality television star, simply known as Saga has shared his financial lifestyle as a celebrity, compared to his lifestyle before fame.

Saga feels that the celebrity status most times leaves people like him to live above their means just to satisfy their followers and mostly critics who will criticize them when things go wrong. He confessed that since he became popular, he has been spending 15 times more than he does before fame.

A lot of people have committed suicide and some are seriously depressed just because their fake lifestyle didn’t yield the desired result. They can’t stand the shame after projecting themselves as being rich when in actual sense they are not. Again I ask, to what end? Does living a fake lifestyle pay?

This above question has led us into some street survey to see if this bad attitude really worth it. we realized that the reasons differ. To some, it’s a fake it till you make it belief attitude, you attract what you live. Some responded by saying it gets them close to the type of people they admire and wish to be like there by grabbing opportunities that will come out of such circles.

We have also discovered that the reasons vary in both male and female. It may interest you to know that some men do it to get across to a lady they admire, so as to get her money or sex. Some do it with the selfish intention to dupe people. While in the women circle, they do it to look gorgeous and attract wealthy men that will spoil them with cash and luxury things.

We also got responses from people that gave good testimonies of living a fake lifestyle. They got job opportunities, got contracts, got nice gifts like cars, expensive clothing and trips abroad some even said they met their destiny helpers. But does it worth it?

Your parents are suffering in the village and you are here living a luxury fake life. You don’t send money for their upkeep and health matters but the little money you get you use it to fund a lifestyle to look big to the real big boys.

They say in this life, do what works for you. Lagos city is such a place that you see a lot of hard working people living large and you can trace their lifestyle to their visible business or job. And yet you still see many others living so big that you can’t explain how they make the money to fund such lifestyles.

The number of people living a fake lifestyle has never outweighed the number of those that live their reality. Most people after displaying such lifestyles and it didn’t work out, you see them not getting the required help when the truth is revealed. Some out of shame will go hiding.

Being fake in life is going to attract you fake reactions, fake crap, and fake friends. Just be real with yourself and others and things will be fine.

The hardest part in life is trying to show the smile you know is fake and to hide the tears that won’t stop.
